Radio golf oyununda Afro-Amerikalı kimliğin temsili: dün, bugüne karşı.

Abstract

Siyasi, ekonomik ve sosyal unsurlar toplumun yapısını etkileyerek, toplumu oluşturan bireyler üzerinde belirleyici roller üstlenmektedir. Bu değişim sürecinde bireyi toplumda ön plana çıkaran veya arka plana iten en önemli faktör ise, bireyin toplumdaki konumuna bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan kimliğidir. Toplumu şekillendiren faktörlerin bireyin toplumsal konumu ve kültürel kimliği üzerindeki etkileri yadsınamaz. Dolayısıyla kimliğin toplumsal, tarihsel ve kültürel süreçlerin karşılıklı etkileşimiyle şekillendiğini söylemek mümkündür. Afro-Amerikalıların kültürel deneyimlerinden yola çıkan August Wilson, Afro-Amerikalı kimliğin tarihi ve kültürel yönünü okuyucuyla buluşturmaktadır. Amerika kıtası, Afro-Amerikalılara, kendi Afrika kökenlerini yeni deneyimleriyle birleştirecekleri kültürel bir ortam sağlayarak, yeni bir kimlik olgusunun ortaya çıkmasına olanak tanımıştır. Afrika’nın zengin kültürel mirası ve beyaz toplumla etkileşim sürecinin inşa ettiği Afro-Amerikalı kimlik, Radio Golf oyununda, Afro-Amerikalıların beyaz toplumdaki duruşları ve sınırlarının temsilidir. Mevcut toplumsal koşullar altında ve baskın gücün karşısında Afro-Amerikalı olabilmenin, sadece sahip olunan ortak kültürün ve geçmişin korunmasıyla mümkün olduğunu vurgulayan yazar, Radio Golf oyunu ile Afro-Amerikalı kimliği genişleyen toplumsal sınırlar çerçevesinde konumlandırmaktadır.

Affecting the structure of the society, political, economic and social factors play decisive roles on the individuals of a society. During this process, identity, which emerges depending on the social position of the individuals, is the most significant factor that prioritizes or ignores them. The effects of the factors shaping the society on the social position and cultural identity of the individual are undeniable. It is, therefore, possible to say that identity is shaped by the mutual interaction of social, historical and cultural process. August Wilson starting from the cultural experiences of Afro-Americans brings together the historical and cultural aspects of Afro-American identity with the audience. The American continent has paved the way for the emergence of a new identity by providing a cultural atmosphere, which Afro-Americans associate their own African roots with the new experiences. In Radio Golf, Afro-American identity is the representation of Afro-Americans’ positions and borders in white society, which is constructed by the rich cultural heritage of Africa and their interactive process with white society. The author emphasizes that being Afro-American is only possible with the protection of shared culture and past under the prevalent social conditions and hegemony and he locates Afro-American identity within the expanding social borders with Radio Golf.
