Ahmed Cevdet Paşa’nın gözüyle XIX. asır Osmanlı toplumu: İstanbul ve Adana örneği

Abstract

XIX. yüzyılda Osmanlı Devleti’nin yetiştirdiği en büyük bilim adamlarından biri olan Ahmed Cevdet Paşa, içinden çıktığı topluma bilim adamlığının yanında devlet adamı olarak da büyük hizmetlerde bulunmuştur. Yetiştiği dönemi iyi tahlil etmiş ve karşılaştığı problemlerle ilgili çözümler üretmeye çalışmıştır. Kabiliyeti ve çalışkanlığı ile döneminde önemli görevlerde bulunmuştur. İstanbul’da bulunduğu sırada saray ve İstanbul’un problemlerini, İstanbul dışına çıktığı zaman da taşranın problemlerini gözlemlemiştir. Bu gözlemlerinin bir kısmını da Ma’ruzât adlı eserinde yazmıştır. Burada Osmanlı Devleti’nin Tanzimat Fermanı sonrası Batılılaşma meseleleri ve bunların Türk sosyal hayatına yansımaları ele alınmıştır. Adı geçen eserde, üzerinde en çok durulan konular, değişimle beraber Türk toplum hayatındaki farklılaşma ve bu farklılaşmanın sosyal hayata, ekonomiye ve kadın hayatına etkileridir. Adana ve çevresinde ise daha çok bölgesel meseleler ve aşiretlerin iskânıyla ilgili çalışmalara yer verilmiştir. Bölgede var olan huzursuzluğun aşiretleri iskân ettirilerek ve devlet otoritesini adaletli bir şekilde tesis ederek olabileceğine işaret edilmektedir.
