Demokratik gelişmelerde ekonomik büyüme: Türkiye örneği

Abstract

Ekonomik büyüme kavramı, bir ülkenin ulusal gelirinin ve buna bağlı olarak kişi başına düşen gelirinin yıllar itibarıyla reel olarak artış göstermesidir. İktisat biliminde ekonomik büyümeyi tetikleyen birçok değişken vardır. Son dönemlerde birçok farklı bilim dalları iktisat bilimine ait olmayan demokrasi kavramının ekonomik performans ile arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeye başlamıştır. Literatürde bu ilişkiyle ilgili az sayıda çalışma olmakla birlikte, demokrasi ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin varlığının, var ise de ne yönde olduğuyla ilgili genel ve ortak bir karara henüz varılamamıştır. Buna karşılık yapılan farklı teorik ve ampirik çalışmalarla zıt yönlü sonuçlar elde edilse de yapılan çalışmaların çoğunluğu demokrasi ve ekonomik büyüme arasında pozitif yönlü bir ilişkinin mevcudiyetinin olduğu fakat kapsayıcı kurumların ekonomik performans üzerinde etkisinin daha belirgin olduğudur. Bu çalışma ile demokrasi ve ekonomik büyüme bir ilişkinin olup olmadığı incelenmiş, ilişki mevcut ise derecesinin ne yönde olduğu literatürde yapılan farklı çalışmalar ışığında saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca demokrasi kavramıyla ilişkili olarak hukuk, ekonomik özgürlük ve kapsayıcı kurumların ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki eksisiyle ilgili bilgiler verilmeye çalışılmıştır.

The concept of economic growth is the real increase in a country's national income and, accordingly, its per capita income over the years. There are many variables that trigger economic growth in economics. Recently, many different branches of science have begun to examine the relationship between the concept of democracy, which does not belong to economics, and economic performance. Although there are few studies on this relationship in the literature, a general and common decision has not yet been reached regarding the existence of the relationship between democracy and economic growth, if any. On the other hand, although contradictory results have been obtained with different theoretical and empirical studies, most of the studies have found that there is a positive relationship between democracy and economic growth, but the effect of inclusive institutions on economic performance is more pronounced. In this study, it was examined whether there is a relationship between democracy and economic growth, and if there is, the degree of the relationship was tried to be determined in the light of different studies in the literature. In addition, it has been tried to give information about the negative effects of law, economic freedom and inclusive institutions on economic growth in relation to the concept of democracy.
