Herkes tarafından genel kabul görmüş bir tanımı olmasa da, terör kavramını
psikolojik bir savaş olarak tanımlamamız mümkündür. Günümüzde küreselleşmenin
ve küresel gelişmelerin etkisiyle terörün ve terörist eylemlerin etkileri ve yayılması
tüm dünyada artmaktadır. Bu durum ise bazı nedenlerle açıklanabilir. İlk olarak,
ekonomik dengesizlikler sayılabilir ki, teröristler mağduriyetlerini terör eylemleriyle
aşma düşüncesindedirler. İkinci olarak, teknolojik gelişmelerdir ki, özellikle iletişim
ve ulaşım araçları ucuz ve kolay ulaşılabilir olmaları nedeniyle teröristlerce sıklıkla
tercih edilirler. Bu araçlar da teröristlere eylemlerinde kolaylıklar ve çabukluk
sağlamaktadır.
Bu saydıklarımıza ek olarak, medya ve medyanın avantajlarının da
teröristler için çok önemli olduğu genel bir kabuldür. Terör eylemlerinin etkileri
medya aracılığıyla artar. Medya ayrıca, hedef kitleler üzerine toplumsal korku ve
endişe yaymanın çok kolay bir yoludur. Bu sebeple medya, terörist eylemlerin
uygulanmasında teröristler için çok uygun bir araçtır diyebiliriz.
There is not a general definition of the concept of terror which everybody
accepts it, but we can define it as a psychological war. The impact and the
poliferation of terror and terrorist actions increase all over the world by globalization
and global developments. So, we can explain this situation with some reasons.
Firstly, economic imbalances which terrorists think that they can overcome their
damnifications with terrorist attacks. Secondly, technological improvements that especially communication and transportation instruments are prefered frequently by
terrorists because of their cheapness and accessibility. So, these instruments provide
facilities and quickness to terrorists for their acts.
Additionally, it is a common acceptance that the media and its advantages
are very important for terrorists. The impressions of terrorist attacks increase via the
media. Also, it is very easy way to spread social fear and anxiety to target groups.
So, we can say the media is a very appropriate instrument for terrorists to implement
their acts.
